First Howard's Run Festival Spirit Night Slated
This year we have scheduled three spirit nights for local supporters to help our cause and enjoy some really tasty food! Our first spirit night is May 31st 5-8pm at Roy Rogers' on Queen City Drive in Cumberland. RR will donate 25% of Drive thru and eat-in orders but you must mention you are there for Howard's Run Festival. We will also have a bake sale inside to benefit the festival and race apps so you can register and take advantage of the Early Bird rates!
Early Bird Deadline Approaching!
Please note that we have drastically altered the registration schedule this year. The early bird discount period will end May 31st at midnight! After that, the registration fee goes up to $50 for the 25k and $25 for 5K.
New Sponsors and Needs
We are very excited to announce that Howard's Run Festival has added a few new sponsors to the ranks for 2018!
It is so encouraging to see so many businesses step forward and support our event that benefits the Allegany County Animal Shelter. We are always welcome to more sponsors since the sponsor money funds the experience for our runners. Presently we still need one more festival sponsor ($500), a course record sponsor ($200), and we have plenty of room for more regular sponsors ($100). For more sponsorship information, contact Sharon Ellsworth at 301-707-4054 or email us.
More Events, More Event Shirts!
Funds permitting, we plan on offering event shirts for our Sweet Pea Shuffle participants this year! Please keep this in mind if you plan on participating and let us know your shirt size in advance, unless you are already signed up for another event. This is an added bonus for our business sponsors as well, as their logos will also be displayed on the back of the Shuffle shirts in addition to the 5K and 25K event shirts.
Spaghetti Dinner Canned
After a careful and intensive review of our festival programming, we have decided to discontinue the Runner's Spaghetti Dinner the evening of packet pickup. The offering has never shown much potential or growth in the three years it has been offered. We are looking at several other opportunities to replace this item with a value-added component to the runners' packet such as a discount coupon for use at participating downtown businesses, or a special race weekend discount at select restaurants for runners.Stay tuned!
Howard's 25K Enters Fourth Year!
What started out as the merging of two ideals is now in preparation for its fourth annual running! Howard's 25K Run started off as the synthesis of two runner's dreams to provide enthusiasts the amazing experience of running the Great Allegany Passage while supporting Maryland's first municipal no-kill shelter, the Allegany County Animal Shelter. In the first three years, Howard's 25K Run has grown from a single event to a two day festival, offering active people of all athletic levels the opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty and history that is unique to Allegany County and its towns and cities. We look forward to seeing the familiar faces that have made this event so dear to us, and we hope there will be many new friends to meet as well!
New for 2018 Howard's Run Festival
This year's festival will take place the weekend of August 17-19. At this time we are still confirming vendors and sponsors, but we are confident that this year's event will be the best ever!
Last year we watched Adam Lowe of Mechanicsburg, MD break the tape and break the mens' record for the 25K collecting $100 for the win and $200 for the One Main Course Record Bonus. The womens' record held up though, so we anticipate a LOT of interest in this year's womens' 25K with a potential $400 cash prize on the line should Alicia Burkey's first year record of 1:50:25 be broken!
In response to many requests, we will be offering race day registration for the Paws on the Pavement 5K. Race day registration for the 5K will be offered from 7:00-7:45am Sunday, August 19 along with 5K late packet pickup. Race shirts and promotionals will be available on a first come, first served basis and we will not guarantee availability or size. We are also reducing the field size of Howard's 25K Run to 150 this year. Additionally, there will be no late packet pickup for the 25K event on Sunday morning.
After three years of holding the line on registration fees, we will be adjusting our fee schedules for Howard's 25K Run and Paws on the Pavement 5K. We experienced a decline in sponsor dollars last year and we are committed to offering the best experience for our participants possible while balancing that against our pledge to our charity. For the size and amenities, we still feel Howard's Run Festival is very competitive in pricing and we expect this restructing will benefit all of us now and in future years.
